The Sacred Valley that runs from the ancient Inca capital of Cusco to Machu Picchu has plenty of options for exclusive villas and suites.
Privacy, luxury and verdant tranquility are the perfect recipe for relaxing in this world-renowned Andean beauty spot.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas can get crowded. The valley, which runs from Cusco to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, is packed with beautiful archaeological sites, sublime Andean landscapes and picturesque villages with colorful locals. It can, at times, also fill up with visitors. But, if you know where to go, you can still enjoy an exclusive experience in the Valley. Here we outline several options for private villas and suites.
Set in 12 acres of secluded grounds in the shadow of Machu Picchu, Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel also has a private villa, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful cloud forest in the most exclusive way. Each suite has a king bed, private terrace, plunge pool, and open air marble shower, as well as 24-hour butler service and private dining. The hotel also has smaller “casitas” or bungalows.
The Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado, in the town of Urubamba, halfway between Cusco and Machu Picchu, has villas located in a breathtaking, steep riverfront garden of wild flowers. The rooms have high, windowed ceilings, a dining area with exquisite Inca-style stonemasonry, and, to preserve the reflective atmosphere, no TVs.
The Sol y Luna hotel, located on the edges of Urubamba, has several “casitas” or small private villas, feature local folk-art and sculptures inspired by local life by artist Federico Bauer, as well as an outdoor Jacuzzi. Casita guests have preferential access to Sol y Luna’s horse ranch, where Peruvian “Paso” horses, famous for their smooth gait, are reared.
The Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, also, of course, in Urubamba, has “Owners Quarters,” with the largest at a little more than 2,000 square feet for up to six guests at a time. These Owners Quarters feature everything from a complimentary bottle of Pisco and biodegradable toiletries to housekeeping three times a day.
