Explora Sacred Valley opens its doors
The Sacred Valley’s newest hotel launched its soft opening, receiving its first guests, in June. The alternative luxury travel company offers visitors simplicity and the chance to get up close to natural and cultural experiences.
Explora, the alternative luxury travel company that runs hotels in far-flung corners of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile, has opened its first facility in Peru, Explora Sacred Valley. Situated on a corn plantation in one of the remotest parts of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the hotel began receiving its first guests in June as part of its soft launch.
Founded in 1993, the company has carved out a niche for itself with its philosophy of simplicity, authenticity and sustainability, including encouraging energetic guests to interact as closely as they can with their natural surroundings through hiking, mountain biking and other physical activities. It already runs six facilities in isolated locations, including the Pacific island of Rapa Nui, the Atacama Desert, and Patagonia’s Torres del Paine National Park, where it allows guests to discover in depth these special environments through numerous excursions and activities.
Explora Sacred Valley has 50 rooms, all with views of the cornfields and surrounding mountains and is designed for maximum tranquility and seclusion. That means no WiFi, television or even min-bars. However, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, with a minimalist aesthetic. The restaurant’s menu, meanwhile, has been inspired by local natural ingredients with a view to providing healthy, satisfying and light meals that will keep guests’ energy levels up. In October, the hotel spa will open in a neighboring, revamped 17th century colonial mansion.
